GA Governor Kemp Signing Landscaping Bill

The Georgia Urban Ag Council (UAC) celebrates the signing of the Landscape Equipment and Agricultural Fairness Act (LEAF Act) by Governor Brian Kemp.

Governor Kemp emphasized consumer freedom when signing House Bill 374 (HB 374), stating "This bill is about choice and freedom." His leadership, along with Senator Shawn Still and bipartisan support from the Georgia General Assembly, ensures HB 374 safeguards consumer choice.

The UAC highlights the benefits of gas-powered, battery-operated, and manual tools for managing yards, construction sites, and pest control. This law empowers citizens and businesses to choose the equipment that best suits their needs.

For UAC members in landscaping and urban agriculture, this law prevents confusion arising from potential gas-versus-electric blower ordinances. The UAC points to recent examples in other states with unnecessary restrictions on gas-powered equipment.

Georgia takes a pioneering step by becoming the first state to codify the protection of this equipment's use. The UAC believes other states will follow Georgia's lead to safeguard their business communities and property rights.

The UAC expresses gratitude for the support of Representatives Brad Thomas and Victor Anderson in securing passage. They also thank Andrew Bray (NALP) and Chuck Bowen (OPEI) for their backing, and extend their deepest appreciation to Bryan Tolar of Tolar Capitol Partners for leading the UAC's efforts.
